I am an award-winning national newspaper journalist and have been covering the news in Manchester, my home city, and across northern England for more than 20 years. I was shortlisted for Northern Writer of the Year at the 2018 Northern Soul Awards. My search for my Mancunian ancestors led me into the jaws of Angel Meadow, Victorian Britain’s most savage slum, where archaeologists helped me make a remarkable discovery in the rubble beneath the streets. Read what happened here.

Good luck Dean looking forward to reading your book in February. Ann Walsh.

When I was about 9 or 10, sometimes my dad would say “smarten yourself up”, you look like you come from Angel Meadow. I never had a clue what he was talking about, but since have read some of the history and intend to visit in the next few weeks. Will look forward to reading your book. Good luck Dean.
